Indian military anxious over Google

DELHI, India, April 4 (UPI) -- The Indian army is taking measures against Internet Web Sites revealing strategic information on its bases.

The Press Trust of India on Sunday quoted Army Chief Gen J.J. Singh as saying satellite images that appeared on Web sites through the Google search engine "do compromise our sensitive and strategic sites. This (information from satellites) definitely would give advantage to our adversaries. But we are not the only one affected. So a major universal effort has to be there to get this blocked. We have taken steps and measures to deal with such exposures."

Singh said a new army doctrine has developed a strategy to be applied in such cases of satellite monitoring.

The Indian military is not the only Asian country unhappy with the search engine's abilities.

Last September South Korean presidential spokesman Kim Man-soo said that his nation intended "raising concerns with U.S. authorities" after newspapers there highlighted the fact that earth.google.com showed "images of the presidential Blue House and military bases."
