MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., Sept. 3 (UPI) -- Internet search company, Google is joining forces with researchers at University of California, Santa Barbara to take computing speed to the next level.

The partnership will continue to develop what's called "quantum technology" computing, which is being called the world's fastest.

While its theoretical, the idea behind quantum computing breaks down to this: the computers will use quantum bits, or "qubits" to process information instead of the binary code of ones and zeros.

In 2011, researchers first showed off quantum chip technology at a convention in Dallas.

Scientists say the qubits can behave like binary code or both. In theory, it could make quantum computers much faster than current digital computers that use binary code.

UCB researchers aren't the only ones Google is working with, they have also joined forces with NASA and D-Wave on quantum technology.
