CUPERTINO, Calif., Jan. 23 (UPI) -- Apple has announced an update to its iOS 7 operating to fix a glitch that has seen its smartphones occasionally and randomly rebooting.

Dubbed the "white/black screen of death" by iPhone users, the bug appears to affect any iPhone running iOS 7 with some users reporting the sudden soft reboot occurs once the iPhone's battery dips below 30 percent, Mashable reported Wednesday.

Apple said the fix would be in an upcoming iOS 7 update.

"We have a fix in an upcoming software update for a bug that can occasionally cause a home screen crash," Apple spokeswoman Trudy Muller told Mashable.

Which "white/black screen of death" is experienced reportedly depends on the color of the iPhone face. A white iPhone face shows a white boot up screen with a black Apple logo, while a device with a black face shows a black screen with a white Apple logo.

The update is expected to be part of iOS 7.1, currently in its fourth beta with developers, along with some minor user interface and design changes, Mashable said.
