SHENZHEN, China, Jan. 7 (UPI) -- Chinese company Huawei has announced a smartphone with the largest display screen ever seen, a 6.1-inch device that blurs the line between phone and tablet.

The Ascend Mate smartphone outdoes the former size champion, the Samsung Galaxy Note, which started with a 5.3-inch phone and grew to a 5.5-inch screen with the Note II, venturebeat.com reported Monday.

Driven by a 1.5 gigahertz quad-core processor, the Ascend Mate's power-hungry display has led Huawei to pack the device with a 4050 mAh battery, also the largest ever slipped into a smartphone case.

The phone has two cameras, an 8-megapixel main camera on the back of the unit and 1-megapixel front-facing camera, and runs the latest version of the Android operating system, Jellybean 4.1.

The phone will be available in China only starting in February, Huawei said, without announcing a price.
