NEW YORK, Nov. 2 (UPI) -- While some residents of New York and New Jersey waited in lines for transport and much-needed gasoline, others lined up to buy Apple's iPad mini.

Many people in New York were trying to cope with the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy but at the Apple's flagship store near Central Park people lined up at 10 p.m. Thursday for the first shot at the new Apple device, CNET reported.

Apple's WiFi-only iPad mini went on sale Friday.

For many New Yorkers, it would remain a question of where they could charge a newly purchased electronic device.

As of Friday 4,000 people in Queens were still without power, as were 54,000 in Staten Island, 35,000 people in Brooklyn and 31,000 in the Bronx, The New York Times reported.

And connectivity for anyone's iPad mini could be a problem, as service providers in New York scrambled to get networks working after Hurricane Sandy caused widespread damage in the region, eWeek reported.
