LONDON, Dec. 23 (UPI) -- The Christmas message of Britain's Queen Elizabeth will be released as a free download for Amazon's Kindle e-book reader after its broadcast, the company said.

The retailer secured access to the transcript of the Queen's 60th holiday message after approaching the Royal Household with the proposal, the BBC reported Thursday.

The Queen's message will be broadcast Dec. 25.

Amazon will have an exclusive on the e-book version, although the text will also be available at Facebook and on the Royal Household's official Web site.

"We would like The Queen's Speech to be broadcast or read as widely as possible, and allowing Kindle to make the text available is just another example of this," a spokeswoman at Buckingham Palace told the BBC.

Kindle owners will also be able to download the Queen's previous Christmas messages dating back to 1952, the year of her accession to the throne, Amazon said.

"Millions of people across the U.K., and the world, wait with anticipation to hear The Queen's Christmas broadcast and we're delighted to be able to make transcripts of Her Majesty's annual addresses, past and present, available to download for free in less than 60 seconds," Gordon Willoughby, director of Kindle EU, said.
