(UPI) -- Washington State police were able to catch Ryan Firoved thanks to help from his girlfriend, who set him up after he bragged to her about having sex with children.

A King County jury convicted Firoved of attempted first-degree child rape and Superior Court Judge Douglass North sentenced him to 10 years in state prison after he was caught trying to rape his girlfriend’s daughter.

When 37-year-old Firoved showed up to a motel room hoping to find his girlfriend’s child, he was greeted by police.

His girlfriend told police that Firoved had bragged to her three months before that he’d raped a 12-year-old girl while on a trip. When she chastised him, Firoved tried to explain.

“I guess you could say I’m a pedophile, but at least I’m not a predator,” Firoved allegedly said. “People come to me and I make it consensual.”

When he told her he would “make it consensual” with her young daughter, the woman went to police.

Following his arrest, Firoved claimed he’d come to the motel to break up with the woman. “It is made up, sick and a fantasy, but at the end of the day I never touched anyone,” Firoved told detectives.

Department of Corrections officials are legally allowed to hold Firoved indefinitely if they believe he continues to pose a risk to children.
