Sept. 11 (UPI) -- A New York man who won a $1 million Mega Millions jackpot said it wasn't his first brush with luck -- he won $10,000 three years earlier.

Jose Corchado, 58, told New York Lottery officials he purchased a Mega Millions ticket at the Sweet 14 Candy & Grocery in Manhattan.

Corchado's ticket matched the first five numbers in the Aug. 1 drawing, 20-22-52-57-73, but did not match the Mega Ball, 07. The ticket earned him the second prize of $1,000,000.

"I checked my numbers and couldn't believe I won," Corchado said.

The Brooklyn resident said the jackpot, which amounts to a $623,040 lump sum after withholdings, is not his first lottery windfall.

"The most I won in the past was $10,000. That was about three years ago," he said.

"My only real plan for the money is to save towards my retirement," Corchado said.
