SANTEE, Calif., Feb. 29 (UPI) -- Animal control officials in southern California said a cat was rescued from a motorist's front bumper after taking an eight-mile wild ride.

The County of San Diego Department of Animal Services said in a Facebook post the woman had traveled about eight miles in Santee before she was flagged down by witnesses who alerted her to the cat trapped in her bumper.

The witnesses were able to free the wedged cat from the bumper and an animal control officer took the feline for a veterinary examination, which found the cat to be uninjured.

A microchip identified the cat as Gnocchi, a feline belonging to the motorist's next-door neighbor.

The department said the Gnocchi was reunited with his owner and the cat now "acts like nothing ever happened."
