Christmas Island tourist catches massive coconut crab

FLYING FISH COVE, Australia, Feb. 4 (UPI) -- A tourist visiting Australia's Christmas Island got the photo of a lifetime when he posed holding an extremely massive coconut crab.

The picture, posed to Facebook by the Christmas Island Tourism Association, shows visitor Mark Pierrot showing off the massive coconut crab, or robber crab, he encountered while touring the island.

"That's not a crab - THIS IS A CRAB," the Facebook post said, referencing the famous knife scene from Crocodile Dundee.

The tourism association said the crabs on the island are able to grow so large because they are a protected species.

"One of the reasons Christmas Island has the largest robber crab population remaining on the planet is because our crabs are protected. Did you know that these crabs can live to be 70 years old?" the association said.
