Zookeeper hospitalized with injuries from rhino

The man was found in the Whipsnade Zoo rhino enclosure with injuries to his chest, abdomen and pelvis.

DUNSTABLE, England, Nov. 19 (UPI) -- A British zookeeper was taken to a hospital Wednesday morning with injuries sustained during a confrontation with a rhinoceros.

Officials said the Whipsnade Zoo zookeeper, who is in his 50s, was found Wednesday morning in the Dunstable, England, zoo's rhino enclosure with injuries to his chest, abdomen and pelvis.

The zookeeper was submerged in water when he was found by colleagues, officials said.

The man was treated at the scene by a Magpas Helimedix Air Ambulance crew and paramedics from the East of England Ambulance Service National Health Service Trust.

The zookeeper was taken by land ambulance to Addenbrooke Hospital "in serious condition," NHS paramedic Dave Tamarro said.
