MANCHESTER, N.H., March 20 (UPI) -- Construction workers digging at a New Hampshire garage stopped work Wednesday when they uncovered what looked like an explosive device, authorities said.

There, under two to three feet of dirt, it appeared they had dug up a grenade, WMUR-TV, Manchester, reported.

Residents nearby were evacuated and an explosives team from the state police arrived at the site. A bomb technician X-rayed the object.

After a few tense moments, the technician declared the device safe. It was a toy.
