UPPSALA, Sweden, Dec. 21 (UPI) -- Police in Sweden said they arrested a pair of suspected Christmas tree thieves by following the trail they left in the snow by dragging the evergreens.

Uppsala police said a witness reported seeing a man and a woman take three trees from an unattended lot and officers were able to track down the suspects by following the trail they left from dragging the trees, The Local reported Wednesday.

Officer Kenneth Sundin said the suspects were arrested, but police have not yet determined whether they will face charges of shoplifting or theft.

"It really depends on what the value of the trees are, if it exceeds the limits for shoplifting," Sundin said.
