LAS VEGAS, Oct. 13 (UPI) -- A resort on the Las Vegas Strip announced it will install a synthetic ice skating rink as part of its winter festivities.

Sheldon Adelson's Venetian Resort announced the 35-by-85-foot rink, made from a recyclable synthetic polymer and treated with a glide-enhancing liquid by vendor BH Skating Parks International, will be installed in the resort's Grand Canal next month as part of the resort's first "Winter in Venice" event, the Las Vegas Sun reported Thursday.

Officials said skaters will use real ice skates, but they may notice the rink is slower to skate on than real ice, even with the glide-enhancer.

The resort said it will cost $19 per half hour to skate on the rink, or $14 with a rewards card.

Other events planned for the Venetian and Palazzo resorts for the "Winter in Venice" celebration include a nightly holiday light show, a 65-foot LED Christmas tree, carolers, candy cane stilt walkers, puppets, jugglers and magicians.

"The first weeks of December have historically proved to be less busy for Las Vegas," resorts President John Caparella said. "With the holidays being such a special time for people everywhere, our goal is to create a celebration that entices both visitors and locals alike to celebrate the holidays with us."
