SAN JOSE, Calif., Oct. 28 (UPI) -- A Fox Sports reporter apparently had some explaining to do after she asked 49ers Coach Mike Singletary about talking to his mentor Bill Walsh, who is dead.

The gaffe occurred Sunday during an interview between Singletary and reporter Danyelle Sargent, the San Jose (Calif.) Mercury News reported Tuesday.

"I heard that your mentor Bill Walsh was one of the first phone calls that you made when you found out that you had the job. What does it mean to you to be the head coach of the 49ers?" Sargent asked.

As Singletary, somewhat tongue-tied, tried to answer, Sargent's producers apparently informed her of her gaffe through her ear piece. She interrupted Singletary saying "I'm sorry. Oh. I'm sorry. What, what did I, what was wrong?"

The gaffe was edited from a segment aired later in the day but because it was recorded during a live "open feed" telecast, news organizations were able to access it and the footage made its way to YouTube where it became an overnight sensation, the News reported.
