NEW YORK, Oct. 10 (UPI) -- Marco Stefano Marescotti faces up to seven years in prison in New York for an alleged hotel-room Internet scam that netted him $38,000.

The New York Post said prosecutors alleged Marescotti posted messages about cheap New York hotel rooms on a Web site. He said all the hotel rooms cost $90 a night, even a Waldorf-Astoria hotel room with a king-size bed.

The prosecutors said customers would e-mail or wire Marescotti a payment to book a hotel room. He then used a set of stolen credit card numbers to book the room pocketing the difference, prosecutors said.
