SEOUL, April 10 (UPI) -- South Korea and China Tuesday agreed to closely coordinate their policies to make North Korea nuclear free, Seoul officials said.
President Roh Moo-hyun and visiting Chinese Prime Minister Wen Jiabao also discussed a proposed pursuit of a free trade agreement to tear down tariffs and other trade barriers between the two neighbors, according to Roh's office.
Wen arrived in Seoul earlier in the day for a two-day visit to mark the 15th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries.
"The two leaders discussed China's constructive role in North Korea's nuclear issue, Seoul-Beijing coordination and a future vision for Northeast Asia," a presidential official said.
China, the only remaining communist ally of North Korea, is believed to have significant leverage over the impoverished neighbor, being its key supplier of food and fuel.
