Song's U.S. trip coincides with a visit by North Korea's top nuclear envoy, Kim Kye Gwan, who is to arrive in New York for talks on implementing the nuclear deal.

Song will also travel to Moscow next Monday to meet with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov for talks largely focused on North Korea.
