Koreas to resume border talks

SEOUL, Feb. 14 (UPI) -- North and South Korea have agreed to resume border talks on the back of this week's nuclear deal, Seoul officials said Wednesday.

South Korea's Unification Ministry said in a statement that working-level delegates from the two countries will meet in the North Korean border city of Kaesong Thursday to discuss the resumption of high-level inter-Korean talks suspended after Pyongyang's missile and nuclear tests last year.

"South Korea has so far worked to improve inter-Korean relations through dialogue, while letting the six-party talks solve the North's nuclear problem, it said.

"We hope the resumption of the inter-Korean dialogue will contribute to facilitating the agreement reached at the six-party talks," it said.

North Korea this week agreed to shut down its main nuclear reactor in return for badly-needed food and energy aid during the six-party talks in Beijing. The talks included, in addition to the two Koreas and China, the United States, Russia and Japan.
