German neo-Nazis use far-left disguise

BERLIN, Jan. 5 (UPI) -- Germany's federal agency tasked with fighting political extremism is facing a new problem: Neo-Nazis that dress like left-wing extremists.

The new neo-Nazi look is characterized by "black clothes, sneakers, sun glasses, baseball hats, hooded sweatshirt" and a black-and-white keffiyeh (Palestinian headscarf) worn around the neck, making the neo-Nazis indistinguishable from their far-left opponents, the weekly Frankfurter Rundschau newspaper said, quoting from a report from the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution.

The group often attacks leftists and police agents during demonstrations, and have been sighted in Berlin, Munich and the Ruhr area, the report said. They see themselves as "left" National Socialists.

Police said it is very hard to prevent violent clashes between both sides because the new neo-Nazis group assembles and dissolves quickly, and its members are hardly to be distinguished from their far-left opponents.
