Expert awaits revenge for Zarqawi death

BERLIN, June 8 (UPI) -- A German terrorrism expert expects al-Qaida to commit acts of revenge for the killing of Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, Iraq's most notorious terrorist.

"It's very possible that other individuals now claim power to commit acts of revenge in the name of al-Zarqawi to keep up the wave of violence," Hans-Joachim Giessmann, terrorism expert at the Institute for Peace Research and Security Policy at the University of Hamburg.

Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki announced Zarqawi's death Thursday, after a succesful U.S.-led raid on his hideout east of Baghdad.

The al-Qaida leader in Iraq, Zarqawi is associated with gruesome bombings, assassinations and the beheading of foreign hostages in the crisis-ridden country.

Washington has offered a $25 million bounty on Zarqawi's head, the same sum they are offering for Osama Bin Laden.
