More Saudi-Yemen anti-terror cooperation

SANAA, Yemen, June 1 (UPI) -- Saudi Crown Prince Sultan Bin Abdel Aziz started a visit to Yemen Thursday aimed at boosting bilateral relations and cooperation in combating terrorism.

Sultan, leading a large delegation including Interior Minister Prince Nayef and Foreign Minister Prince Saud al-Faisal, will hold talks with Yemeni Prime Minister Abdel Kader Bajamal within the framework of the Yemeni-Saudi Coordination Council.

The two sides will sign the final maps for the demarcation of the border between them which has been a source of disputes and wars since 1934.

Yemeni Foreign Minister Abu Baker al-Kurbi underscored the importance of the talks, which will push forward partnership and cooperation in rehabilitating the Yemeni economy, paving the ground for its integration in the overall Gulf economy, a project supported by Saudi Arabia.

Kurbi said political cooperation between the neighboring countries is excellent, as they share common visions on Arab, regional and Islamic issues, in addition to "the strong security cooperation," especially in combating terrorism and exchanging wanted criminals and security expertise.

During the visit nine agreements, memoranda of understanding and development projects worth hundreds of millions of Saudi riyals will be signed to finance infrastructure, social and electricity projects in Yemen.

Yemen and Saudi Arabia signed a security agreement in 2000 under which they exchanged wanted criminals between the two countries.
