U.S. interests a target if Iran attacked

TEHRAN, May 24 (UPI) -- Iran's spiritual guide Ayatollah Ali Khamenei warned the United States that its interests around the world will be targeted if it attacks Iran.

Speaking to groups of workers from several parts of Iran, Khamenei was quoted by Mehr news agency as saying Wednesday that the Islamic revolution in Iran has continued despite U.S. threats over the past 27 years.

"The language of the Americans is that of threats and intimidation, but the alert Iranian people and the government, which relies on the people's support, does not fear the threats," Khamenei said.

He said the Iranian people are advocates of peace and the Iranian regime never attacked anyone, stressing however, that "the Americans should know that in case of any attack against the Islamic Iranian Republic, their interests around the world which can be reached will be targeted."

Khamenei said the efforts deployed to build a strong and developed Iran are an important means to confront the enemy, noting "the enemies' incapacity to enter into a military confrontation with the Iranian people and the failure of their plans to stir differences between popular ranks."
