Kashmiri separatists ready for meeting

NEW DELHI, May 16 (UPI) -- An umbrella organization of Kashmiri separatist groups is ready to participate in an upcoming roundtable meeting on Kashmir.

The All Party Hurriyat (liberation) Conference, the liberal face of separatist politics in Kashmir, will attend Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's second conference in Srinagar on May 25, the Hindustan Times reported Tuesday.

Hurriyat had boycotted the first roundtable held in February in Delhi.

"Sections of the federal government have received positive signals from the separatist combine... The APHC leadership is in dilemma on the manner of its participation where they would share a platform with mainline political parties for the first time," said an interior ministry official.

At a recent religious gathering in Srinagar, Hurriyat chairman Mirwaiz Umer Farooq expressed Hurriyat's concern about the meeting and said those who disagree should be invited to attend.

A news report said that despite broad agreement among the Hurriyat constituents on attending the meeting, the separatist leaders were weighing the possible political fall-out of their participation.
