4 Lebanese troops killed in chopper crash

BEIRUT, Lebanon, May 12 (UPI) -- A Lebanese army helicopter crashed in eastern Lebanon Friday, killing four army personnel, including two officers.

An army statement said communication with the Italian-U.S.-made Augusta Bell helicopter was lost shortly before it crashed on hills in the village of Niha in the Bekaa valley.

The chopper had taken off on a training mission from Riyak air base, in the east of the country, when the incident happened.

The army set up an investigation team to determine the cause of the crash, which is largely believed to be the result of a technical fault.

Several years ago, the Lebanese army received military equipments from the U.S. army reserves in Germany, including a number of helicopters.
