Europe helping Syrian tourist industry

DAMASCUS, Syria, May 11 (UPI) -- The Syrian-European Business Center will be cooperating with official Syrian and European departments to encourage investment in Syria's tourist industry.

A statement by the center said Thursday that investment opportunities will be reviewed and studied at a Syrian-European three-day meeting opening in Aleppo Friday.

"The Syrian-European Business Center and the European Center for Information, in cooperation with the Ministry of Tourism and Syrian chambers of commerce and tourism, will hold the forum in view of the high prospects of Syrian tourism; Aleppo was chosen as a venue due to its rich Islamic heritage and tourist attractions," the statement said.

It said the meeting is aimed at promoting investment projects in the Syrian tourist industry, and helping improve Syria's image abroad as well as encouraging further cooperation between tourist companies in Syria and Europe.

The statement indicated that 72 companies, including 45 from Syria and 27 from France, Belgium, Holland, Switzerland, Greece, Turkey, Germany, Spain and Bulgaria, are taking part in the forum.
