Magazine: CIA ran secret prison in Poland

HAMBURG, Germany, Dec. 15 (UPI) -- The German news magazine Stern reports in its latest issue that the CIA ran a secret prison in eastern Poland.

Referring to the statements of an unidentified "high-ranking Polish intelligence agent," the magazine said Thursday a secret detention facility was located in a closed-off part of a training center for the Polish secret service near the village of Kiejkury.

Washington has had personnel at the site for five or six years, the magazine said. They were deployed there for several months at a time.

Stern's disclosures back allegations made by the Washington Post in early November that the CIA hid and interrogated al-Qaida suspects at Soviet-era compounds in Eastern Europe.

The Polish government has launched an investigation into the allegations of a secret prison. Former President Aleksander Kwasniewski has denied the allegations.
