CHICAGO, Aug. 23 (UPI) -- John Legend is continuing his relationship with WGN America by signing on to executive produce a new series based on the Black Wall Street.

The series will follow the real-life story of a neighborhood in Tulsa, Oklahoma during the early part of the 20th century that housed one of the wealthiest African-American communities in the United States.

The area is also known for an attack that took place in 1921 that left the neighborhood destroyed with over 300 killed.

This will be Legend's second project with WGN following the network's hit drama Underground which follows a group of American heroes as they escape from slavery and fight for freedom.

Underground which is also executive produced by the singer, has become WGN's most-watched original scripted series ever and has averaged 3 million total viewers when taking into account DVR returns. In April, the show was quickly renewed for a second season set to premiere in 2017.
