"I am truly honored and excited to be partnering with MTV and 51 minds," the rapper said in a statement. "Family tradition will never be the same, bitch!"

"Ja Rule is the modern day reality rap star version of Bill Cosby's role from The Cosby Show," MTV programming president Susanne Daniels said. "He embraces a unique parenting style with his teenage kids that feels fresh and funny. We're excited to be in business with him and his delightful family."

Ja Rule released his second independent album, Pain is Love 2, in 2012. The rapper has pursued acting in recent years under his given name, Jeffrey Atkins, and last appeared on VH1 series Single Ladies in March.
