NEW YORK, Sept. 5 (UPI) -- Aviva Drescher has been fired from The Real Housewives of New York.

The 43-year-old author will not return for season seven of the Bravo reality series. Drescher joined the cast in 2012, and appeared on seasons five and six.

Drescher was involved in a farm accident when she was six years old that resulted in her left leg being amputated. One of the reality star's most memorable moments on the series came when she threw her prosthetic leg on the table during the season six finale. Her castmates had accused her of faking illness to avoid cast events, and Drescher declared "the only thing fake about [her]" was her leg before causing the scene at a public party.

The Real Housewives of New York debuted in 2008 as a spinoff of The Real Housewives of Orange County. Cast members Ramona Singer, Sonja Morgan, Kristen Taekman, Heather Thompson and Carole Raziwill remain, and Helena Christensen was reportedly approached to replace Drescher. The model turned the opportunity down.
