NEW YORK, July 11 (UPI) -- A summer tour is being planned to introduce Scottish actor Peter Capaldi as the latest star of Doctor Who.

Producers of the beloved British TV series said Capaldi and his co-star Jenna Coleman are scheduled to visit seven cities across five continents in 12 days to take part in various media and fan engagements and publicize the re-booted show's upcoming, eighth season.

The tour is to kick off in Wales Aug. 7 and will finish in Brazil Aug. 19. The stars will make their first joint U.S. appearance in New York Aug. 14. Other stops will include South Korea, Australia and Mexico.

Executive producer and lead writer Steven Moffat will also make appearances at several of the events.

"It's fantastic that so many people across the world love Doctor Who. After eight months solid filming deep in the world of monsters, Jenna and I are thrilled to be heading for the Planet of Fans," Capaldi said in a statement.

"It's a new beginning for one of the most popular series in the world and we couldn't be more excited to have the Twelfth Doctor live in New York to promote the long awaited return of Doctor Who on BBC America. It's going to be epic," said Richard De Croce, senior vice president of programming for the cable TV network.
