WASHINGTON, Nov. 1 (UPI) -- The Washington Post will run the "Doonesbury" comic strip in full color beginning this week, the newspaper said Sunday.
The Post recently moved Garry Trudeau's long-running strip to Page 2 of its Style section, a move that allowed the newspaper to change the Monday-to-Saturday run from black-and-white to color, Style Editor Ned Martel said. The Sunday strip already runs in color.
Trudeau introduced "Doonesbury" in 1970 and the strip runs in almost 1,400 daily and Sunday newspapers in the United States and other markets. In 1975, Trudeau was the first comic strip artist to receive a Pulitzer Prize for editorial cartooning.
The daily color run in the Post comes as the strip introduces a storyline in which Roland Hedley -- a long-running character whose career in TV journalism has landed him at Fox News Channel -- is promoting an actual "Doonesbury" book, "My Shorts R Bunching. Thoughts?"
The book is a collection of Tweets by Hedley, the Post said.
