Suspect in Andrews' case ordered to Calif.

CHICAGO, Oct. 4 (UPI) -- A 47-year-old Illinois man accused of taking nude videos of ESPN reporter Erin Andrews will be transferred to California, a judge says.

U.S. Magistrate Judge Arlander Keys ruled Saturday that, pending a hearing Monday, Michael David Barrett of Westmont, Ill., will be transferred in custody to California in the wake of his arrest at Chicago's O'Hare Airport, The Chicago Sun-Times reported.

Barrett's attorney will argue Monday for his client to be released on bond instead of being transferred from Illinois to California.

Barrett, an insurance company executive, was arrested Friday on charges of interstate stalking for secretly videotaping Andrews, 31, at hotels in at least two states.

The FBI alleges as part of efforts to make nude videos of the ESPN personality, Andrews would alter the peepholes to Andrews' hotel rooms.

The Sun-Times said Andrews, who serves as a sideline reporter for ESPN at sporting events, said in a statement Saturday she hopes other stalker victims will benefit from her case.

"For my part, I will make every effort to strengthen the laws on a state and federal level to better protect victims of criminal stalking," Andrews said.
