Katy Perry returns with new song 'Chained to the Rhythm'

Feb. 10 (UPI) -- Katy Perry returned Thursday with her first new music in months.

The 32-year-old singer released a single and a quirky lyric video for her song "Chained to the Rhythm" featuring Jamaican singer-songwriter Skip Marley.

"Dive deeper into this bop - feast your eyes on the LYRICS," she said of the song's message on Twitter. "We gonna call this era Purposeful Pop."

"Chained to the Rhythm" includes the lyrics, "So comfortable, we live in a bubble, bubble/So comfortable, we cannot see the trouble, trouble." The video shows a hamster eating in its living room as it watches another hamster run on a wheel on TV.

Perry last released the single "Rise" in July for the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio. She said on On Air with Ryan Seacrest the next month that she's "experimenting" with her new album but not "rushing" its release.

"I'm just having a lot of fun, but experimenting and trying different producers, and different collaborators, and different styles. I'm not rushing," the star said.

"I've got some timelines in my head, but [haven't set a release date]," she said. "I put 110 percent into everything I do and I am confident that if I stay vulnerable and authentic with myself that the music that comes out of me will continue to connect."

Perry last released the album Prism in 2013, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and includes the singles "Roar" and "Dark Horse." She will launch her own shoe line, Katy Perry Footwear, this month.
