LOS ANGELES, March 7 (UPI) -- Beyonce made a surprise appearance at daughter Blue Ivy's school benefit.

The 34-year-old singer performed several songs, including her single "Crazy in Love" and Whitney Houston hit "I Will Always Love You," at the Center for Early Education's 75th anniversary gala on Saturday.

The event honored Reveta Bowers, the longtime head of the "socio-economically and culturally diverse independent school." Several audience members shared photos and video of Beyonce's performance.

"About 20 minutes before she went on stage there were rumors that Beyonce would be performing, but no one was 100 percent certain until she actually walked out," an eyewitness told Entertainment Tonight.

Beyonce and husband Jay Z married in 2008 and welcomed Blue Ivy in 2012. The singer shared her love for her daughter in an interview with Vogue the next year, calling Blue Ivy her "homey" and "best friend."

"I feel like I have something that has grounded me so much more," she said. "Family has always been important. I've always had my mother and my father and my husband. But it's just... Life is so much more than [fame]. It's not defined by any of this."
