LOS ANGELES, Feb. 11 (UPI) -- Paul McCartney personally thanked a star roster of artists who performed Beatles classics at a Los Angeles gala in his honor.

Neil Young, Katy Perry, Alica Keys and Coldplay were among the top-tier performers who took the stage at the MusiCares Person of the Year award ceremony, which honored McCartney for his music career and charitable contributions.

"For me, obviously it is great to here these fantastic artists singing my songs," McCartney told the crowd.

Tony Bennett and the Foo Fighters also performed, and McCartney himself opened the show with "Magical Mystery Tour," Britain's The Daily Telegraph said Saturday.

MusiCares is a warmup to Sunday's Grammys and was the latest stop on a big week for McCartney, who recently released a new album. He received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and will take the stage at the Grammys as well.
