Rodriguez booted off of 'Idol'

LOS ANGELES, March 18 (UPI) -- Karen Rodriguez, a 21-year-old New Yorker, was eliminated from Season 10 of the singing competition series "American Idol" Thursday night.

Her elimination followed a lackluster performance of Taylor Dane's "Love Will Lead You Back" on Wednesday night's episode and a better received rendition of Mariah Carey's "Hero" Thursday.

"It just felt great to have at least that one chance," The Hollywood Reporter quoted her as saying as she tearfully urged judges Randy Jackson, Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez to use their once-a-season save to keep her on the show. "I can do so much better, and I know you guys believe in me."

The judges ultimately opted not to use the save for her.

Eleven contestants -- six male and five female -- remain in the competition.
