NEW YORK, Aug. 6 (UPI) -- Haitian-American musician Pras Michel says he has no intention of supporting his ex-Fugees band mate Wyclef Jean in his bid for president of Haiti.

Jean officially announced his plans to run for office Thursday night in his native Haiti.

However, Pras quickly issued a statement to the New York Daily News indicating he would not be stumping for Jean.

"I endorse Michel Martelly as the next president of Haiti because he is the most competent candidate for the job," Michel said in a statement, without offering details about his decision.

The Fugees were a popular hip-hop, reggae and soul band that broke up last year.
