'Ride Along 2' tops the North American box office

LOS ANGELES, Jan. 17 (UPI) -- The Ice Cube-Kevin Hart comedy Ride Along 2 has dethroned Star Wars: The Force Awakens as the No. 1 movie in North America, Rentrak announced Sunday.

The Force Awakens was the top movie in the United States and Canada for the last four weekends.

Ride Along 2 scored $34.1 million during its opening weekend.

Coming in at No. 2 for the period of Jan. 15-17 is The Revenant with $29.5 million, followed by The Force Awakens at No. 3 with $25.1 million, 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi at No. 4 with $16 million and Daddy's Home at No. 5 with $9.3 million.

Rounding out the top tier are Norm of the North at No. 6 with $6.7 million, The Forest at No. 7 with $5.8 million, The Big Short at No. 8 with $5.2 million, Sisters at No. 9 with $4.4 million and The Hateful Eight at No. 10 with $3.4 million.
