LOS ANGELES, Jan. 16 (UPI) -- Danish actress Connie Nielsen has been cast as Hippolyta, the titular heroine's mother in the upcoming movie Wonder Woman.
Variety reported the casting news Friday, but offered no other details about how the queen of the Amazons will fit into the overall storyline.
Patty Jenkins is directing the movie, which is set to hit theaters June 23, 2017. The ensemble also includes Gal Gadot, Chris Pine, Danny Huston, Robin Wright, David Thewlis and Ewen Bremner.
Nielsen, 50, is known for her work in The Devil's Advocate, Gladiator, The Hunted, The Great Raid and 3 Days to Kill. She also had recurring roles on TV's The Following and The Good Wife.
