LOS ANGELES, April 13 (UPI) -- Emilia Clarke stars in a new trailer for Terminator: Genisys.

The 28-year-old actress portrays Sarah Connor, mother to Resistance leader John Connor (Jason Clarke). The preview sees John Connor send Kyle Reese (Jai Courtney) back in time to save his mother after learning Skynet will attack him in both the past and future.

Reese finds the past drastically altered, with Sarah Connor raised by a T-800 Terminator (Arnold Schwarzenegger) programmed to protect her. The trio team up against an evil T-800 (Schwarzenegger), a T-1000 (Lee Byung-hun) and, surprisingly, a human/cyborg hybrid version of John Connor.

"To quote Spinal Tap: 'It turns it up to 11,'" Jason Clarke said of the plot twist to Entertainment Weekly. "It takes it from a typical machine chasing the good guys to giving it a bit more complexity within the same realm."

"He's freed from being a messiah, freed from the burden of knowing the future is set and nothing can change it forever," he continued of John Connor. "He's full of possibilities now that he's not fully machine, not fully human. he's something else. He's still evolving."
