Harrison Ford injured on Millenium Falcon while shooting 'Star Wars: Episode VII'

The actor is set to reprise his role as Han Solo in the new "Star Wars" movie.

LONDON, June 12 (UPI) -- Harrison Ford has been injured, and is being treated in a London hospital.

The 71-year-old actor was on the set of Star Wars: Episode VII when he injured his ankle Thursday.

"Harrison Ford sustained an ankle injury during filming today on the set of Star Wars: Episode VII," a statement from Disney reads. "He was taken to a local hospital and is receiving care. Shooting will continue as planned while he recuperates."

A source tells the Hollywood Reporter the actor injured himself on a prop. The door of the Millennium Falcon spacecraft is said to have caused the accident.

Ford will reprise his role as Han Solo in the new movie. He is joined by original actors Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew and Kenny Baker, and newcomers John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, Lupita Nyong'o and Max von Sydow.

Star Wars: Episode VII is scheduled for release December 18, 2015.
