'Expendables' tops weekend U.S. box office

LOS ANGELES, Aug. 19 (UPI) -- "The Expendables 2," starring Bruce Willis, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone, was No. 1 at the U.S. box office this weekend.

The film raked in $28.75 million in gross U.S. receipts.

"The Bourne Legacy," with Jeremy Renner, Rachel Weisz and Edward Norton, was No. 2 with $17.02 million.

All studio estimates of gross box office receipts are via Box Office Mojo.

"ParaNorman" was third with $14 million; "The Campaign" fourth with $13.385 million; "Sparkle (2012)" fifth with $12 million; "The Dark Knight Rises" sixth with $11.14 million; "The Odd Life of Timothy Green" seventh with $10.909 million; "Hope Springs" eighth with $9.1 million; and "Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days" ninth with $3.85 million.

"Total Recall (2012)" was 10th with $3.5 million.
