GLAAD to honor Nixon and Behar

NEW YORK, Feb. 26 (UPI) -- Actress Cynthia Nixon and talk-show host Joy Behar are to be honored at the upcoming 21st annual GLAAD Media Awards ceremony in New York, organizers said.

The event is to take place March 13 at the Marriot Marquis in Manhattan with Alan Cumming set to serve as host.

The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation said its awards are intended to "elevate and promote fair, accurate and inclusive stories of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender issues, people and allies that have increased awareness, understanding and respect for the lives of LGBT people."

The organization is expected to present its Excellence in Media Award to Behar and the Vito Russo Award to Nixon. Awards are also to be handed out on stage for Outstanding Drama Series, Outstanding TV Movie or Mini-Series, Outstanding TV Journalism Segment, and Outstanding Digital Journalism Article.

Confirmed to attend the ceremony are Sigourney Weaver, Gabourey Sidibe, Bryan Batt, Sarah Paulson, Rosie Perez, Sandra Bernhard, Dustin Lance Black, Nigel Barker, Jay Manuel, Isis King, Robert Verdi, Jill Zarin and Michael Patrick King.
