EDMONTON, Alberta, Feb. 15 (UPI) -- Ryan Reynolds shared a touching story of his time spent with a young Deadpool fan he met who is battling cancer. Reynolds, who plays the titular character in the recently released superhero comedy Deadpool, showed support for 13-year-old Connor McGrath on Facebook after meeting him six months ago.

"Ladies, gentlemen, boys and girls. This is my friend, Connor McGrath. He's quite possibly the biggest #Deadpool fan on earth," the actor wrote alongside a photo of himself standing with McGrath who is seen wearing a Deadpool hat. "He was also the first person ever to see the Deadpool film. Like Wade Wilson, Connor's trying to put cancer in his rearview mirror."
"About 6 weeks ago, I traveled to Edmonton Alberta to show Connor the movie at his hospital. Of course, the Deadpool was right up his alley because Connor's the funniest, potty-mouthed Canadian mercenary I've ever met," he continued before urging his fans to help donate money so that McGrath could receive the treatment he needs.
"He's my friend. I know lots of celebrities jump up and down touting a cause -- and maybe I'm no different. But holy frozen [expletive]-slivers, I love this kid. He's the GREATEST. And he needs your help to get well. I've donated to help Connor and I hope you will too," Reynolds said posting a link to McGrath's You Caring page which has currently raised $33,605 out of the $800,000 needed for his treatment.
The fundraising page mentions how the young fan was diagnosed back in July of 2013 with leukemia and received a bone marrow transplant in May of 2015. As his cancer has been in and out of remission, McGrath's body has not been responding to chemotherapy leading him to possibly needing the expensive Car T-cell therapy treatment.
On Sunday, Deadpool was announced as the No. 1 movie in North America, earning $135 million on opening weekend.
