OXFORD, British Columbia, Feb. 9 (UPI) -- Tennis star Andy Murray and his wife, Kim Sears welcomed their first child, a daughter, into the world Sunday.

The Scottish athlete's rep told the BBC the couple, married in April of last year, are reportedly doing well after Sears had the baby during the early morning hours.

The couple announced the pregnancy in August, saying the baby was expected to come sometime this month.

Last month, the Australian Open runner-up discussed the importance of family, saying "My child is more important to me, and my wife is more important to me, than a tennis match."

"It's a big change for me and my wife, but that's the current priority and I'll see after that," he said before the tournament. He completed the tournament in second with Novak Kjokovic in first.
