WASHINGTON, Aug. 11 (UPI) -- The National Transportation Safety Board is meeting today to determine the cause of the car accident that critically injured comedian Tracy Morgan and killed his mentor James McNair .

Wal-Mart truck driver Kevin Roper smashed his vehicle into Morgan's limousine during a traffic backup on the New Jersey Turnpike last year. Three other passengers also suffered serious injuries.

Roper was driving 65 mph despite entering a highway work zone. He has since been charged with death by auto and four counts of assault by auto in the state court of New Jersey. In May, Morgan and two other passengers settled lawsuits against Wal-Mart for an undisclosed amount.

The NTSB also hopes to discuss some safety recommendations based on the accident and raise concerns about operator fatigue, which played a role in the crash, across all modes of transportation.
