Major brawl erupts at end of Redskins-Texans practice

RICHMOND, Va., Aug. 8 (UPI) -- Professional football is still a month away, but some serious heat erupted at the end of a practice Saturday between the Washington Redskins and Houston Texans.

A brawl broke out about an hour into practice in Virginia Saturday afternoon, which was apparently a holdover from the previous day's practice when a Redskins running back ran over a Texans defensive player.

Players from both teams participated in the brawl, which included punches and other fighting, ESPN reported. The coaches ultimately separated the teams and they continued practice on separate fields.

After the practice, Washington players accused Houston of starting the fight.

"They came out here trying to be tough guys today, but it didn't work," Redskins defensive lineman Chris Baker said.

"Definitely don't want to have a soft football team and I definitely don't think we have that," Texans linebacker Brian Cushing said.

"It's intense out there," Houston head coach Bill O'Brien said. "It's too bad, but that's just what happens with two competitive teams."
