NEW YORK, May 8 (UPI) -- Tina Fey stripped down to her skivvies to bid farewell to David Letterman on The Late Show Thursday night.

The funny lady made 20 appearances on the show throughout the years, and decided to end her streak by undressing, exposing her spanks and unitard that said "Bye Dave."

At first, the host complimented Fey's dress, saying it was "something Kate Middleton would show up in."

Then the SNL alum said it'll probably be the last time she'll wear an ensemble like that on a late night talk show.

"When you retire, this is it. I'm never going to wear a fancy dress on a talk show again, it's very hard work," she said. "The contraptions under here are almost medical. I'm terrible in heels. I dress up like this out of respect for you. What, I'm going to put a dress on for Jimmy [Fallon]? That's creepy, he's like my brother. Wear special underwear for James Corden? That's not going to happen. The next time you see me, I'll be playing charades in a Slanket."

She then got up and with the help of Letterman tore off her dress and surprised him in her underwear. The back of the unitard read: #lastdressever.

Seems like a fitting goodbye gift.

Letterman's last show will be May 20 and Stephen Colbert will replace him as the host of the Late Show.
