LOS ANGELES, April 27 (UPI) -- Kim Kardashian's ex-husband Kris Humphries has apologized for a tweet about his former stepfather-in-law, Bruce Jenner, who came out as a transgender woman on Saturday.

"Man, I'm glad I got out when I did. #Gottadoyou," Humphries tweeted Saturday, when ABC aired Diane Sawyer's much-anticipated interview with Jenner.

Humphries, a Washington Wizards player, was married to Kardashian for 72 days before she filed for divorce in 2011.

Many Twitter users saw Humphries' remark as insensitive and offensive, while others pointed out that it was actually Kardashian who launched divorce proceedings.

Humphries responded in a follow-up tweet and expressed his support for Jenner.

"I have and always will support Bruce hence #Gottadoyou," Humphries said. "Now recognize I was too vague and sincerely apologize for the way this came across."

"#FullySupportBruce," he added.
